What Correction Is

Every drive-through wash, every gas-station brush, every quick wipe with a dusty towel leaves its mark in your clear coat. Multiply that by a few years of Florida sun and salt and you get paint that looks gray in daylight and hazy under streetlights — no matter how clean the car is.
Paint correction is the only real fix. Using machine polishers, measured pads, and professional compounds, the clear coat is leveled until the scratches that scatter light are gone. What's left is the color the factory sprayed, at full depth. On black and dark paint the difference is startling; on any paint it's permanent, because the defects are removed, not filled.

UV oxidation

Sand abrasion

What actually causes swirl marks?
Almost always: bad washing. Brush car washes, dirty sponges, and dry towels drag grit across the clear coat and leave thousands of fine circular scratches that scatter light — that gray haze you see in direct sun. Around here, sand makes it worse: one wipe of a sandy towel can do a season of damage. Correction removes the scratches; disciplined hand washing keeps them from coming back.
Is paint correction the same as buffing?
No — and the difference matters. Old-school buffing hides defects under oils and waxes that wash off in weeks, or worse, burns through paint with an aggressive wheel. Machine paint correction removes a microscopic layer of clear coat to genuinely level the scratches, measured and worked panel by panel. The result is permanent: those defects are gone, not concealed.
How much clear coat does correction remove?
A properly-done correction removes microns — thousandths of a millimeter — and paint is assessed before and during the work so there is always a healthy margin. This is exactly why correction is not something to buy from the cheapest bidder: done wrong, there is no undo.
One-step or multi-stage — which do I need?
A one-step enhancement removes light swirls and oxidation and restores most of the gloss — right for daily drivers in decent shape. Multi-stage correction adds a cutting stage for deeper scratches, water-spot etching, and heavily oxidized paint. The honest answer comes from an in-person inspection: we quote after seeing the paint in good light, not before.
Should I protect the paint after correction?
Yes — corrected paint is perfect paint, and the Gulf Coast starts working on it immediately. At minimum, we seal every correction with a premium sealant. If you want the result to last for years instead of months, this is exactly when a ceramic coating makes sense: you are only ever coating a car once it has been corrected anyway.
